Frankenmuth Mi

A revisit to Frankenmuth Mi,  We where here a year ago and got chased by thunderstorms all weekend.  Downtown was busy, it was hard to believe that a pandemic was happening with all the people walking around.  It was nice to see that people are getting out and shopping.

Frankenmuth is located in Saginaw County and is an area of a city a little over three square miles. It is a town of Bavarian decent. The name Frankenmuth means "courage of the Franconians The towns nick name and little Bavaria,  The city was founded in 1845 by Lutheran immigrants out of Germany.  They are famous for Bronner's, the worlds largest Christmas ornament store.  But they are also famous for the cheese factories that they have there.

Stop by and get a Christmas ornament with your name painted on it or maybe some great cheese.  It is worth the stop.

Newaygo Mi.

With things setting down and being able to get back out in the world I am starting to travel a little bit more,  Staying close to home here are a few photos from this weekends adventures.  I hope to be back up and running soon. I miss the travel and seeing the beauty of the state I live in.
Newaygo Mi has some beautiful places to explore.  With the Muskego river flowing through the north side of town and the park along to river you can find interesting views and artwork.  With all that is going on in the world it is nice that there are places like this to escape it all and just relax and enjoy the thing you have and the people you share it with.  Take the time to go to a park and listen to the water run down the river and look for that one interesting thing that you may never have seen before.  Find that little thing that catches you eye.

Pillar Church, Holland Mi

At bit of Holland History.
The year is 1871, October 8th, The smell of smoke alerts residents of the Holland area of possible trouble.  Soon it was clear that there was a problem.  People fled as the fire races across the wooded area.  Soon it was touching the edge of the new city of Holland.  quickly the fire consumed the wood structures of the downtown area.  The city was destroyed.  But one building still stood as the embers still glowed and smoldered.  The Pillar Church.  The church still stands today.  It has changed some from that day being added onto with class rooms and offices.  Oh I forgot to tell you.  The same time this fire was blazing there was some other fire some place that made the news also.  Some story about a woman's cow that kicked over a lantern and started a fire.

To this day they still do not know how the Great Holland fire started but rumor has it that sparks from the Chicago fire drifted over Lake Michigan and started the fire.

With the winter over and warmers weather coming it is time to try to get out and travel again.  Limited by the COVID-19 travel restrictions I have been staying close to home and traveling along.  My team has been staying home or traveling close to home in Fremont.  These are photos from the Holland Mi area.  Been doing some nature hikes and barn photos.
